UNIT 4: ECOSYSTEMS

1-      1- WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM?

    2- AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS

    3- TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS

    4- BIODIVERSITY

    5- ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION

 1- WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM?

It is a group of living things that live in a place.

 2- AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS

2-      They have 3 key factors:

    -  Temperature: the top is hotter than the bottom.

    -  Sunlight: it cannot reach the depth ocean.

    -  Movement: It can move or it can be still.

FRESH WATER:

  - FLOWING WATER: rivers, waterfalls

  - STILL WATER: lakes, pounds, reservoir. The water doesn’t move.

SALT WATER:

  -  COAST: it has more light.

  -  OPEN SEA: it is the deepest.

3-      3- TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS

They have 4 key factors:

    -  TEMPERATURE: is highest in the Equator. When temperature is low, plants cannot grow.

    -  HUMIDITY: there are more plants in humidity areas.

    -  RELIF: is the shape of the land (mountain, plateau,…)

    -   SOIL:  there is less vegetation in areas with less soil.

  ROCKS:

    -   Some rocks form from lava.

    -   Some rocks form from fragments of other rocks.

    -   Some rocks form inside the Earth.

    -   Some rocks form at the bottom of the sea.

4-       4- BIODIVERSITY

  -  It is the variety of living things on Earth.

  -  The two most biodiverse ecosystems are rainforest and coral reef.

  -  They are the house of living things.

  -  Rainforest has soil, good relief, humidity and temperature.

  -  Coral Reef doesn’t have a lot of movement. It has good temperature and sunlight.

  -  Some benefits are:

o   We get food, energy, medicines and materials.

o   It regulates humidity.

  -  The extinction of species is when living things disappears.

  -  The causes of extinction are: destruction, pollution, over fishing and hunting.

5-      5- ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION

    -  The authorities can collect the trash to recycle it, identify endangered species and create laws to limit hunting and overfishing.

    -  We can recycle my trash, prevent fire in forest, take short showers and use less plastic.

UNIT 3: WE RESPECT ALL LIVING THINGS

We are going to study:

What are the living things ?
- how do we study them?
- Types of cells
- the 5 kingdoms

1- What are the living things ?

They are organisims that carry out live.

2- How do we study them?

We need to use:
- Binoculars
- Telescope
- Microscope
- Magnifying glass
- Diving equipment
- field GuideS

3- Types of cells

Unicellular and multicellular

4- the 5 kingdoms

Plants:
- they are multicellular
- They cannot move
- they make their own food.

Animals:
- they are multicellular
-they move around.
- They cannot make their food. They eat meta and grass.

Protoctist:
- they are different from the other kingdoms.
Groups:

    - Protozoa
    -they are unicellular.
    - they live in the water and inside living things.

    - Algae
    - They are unicellular and multicellular.
    - They live in the water.

Fungi:
They cannot move.

TYPES:

MULTICELLULAR:
    - MUSHROOMS: they grow underground. The reproduce in Autum.
    - MOULDS: They grow in bread and fruits.

UNICELLULAR:
-YEASTS: They make their own food.

Bacterias:
- They are unicellular.
- They are everywhere.
- Some make their own food and some don't do it.
- Some are good and some are bad for us.

UNIT 1: WE PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH

What we are going to study:

1. What is health?

    - Mental

    - Social

    Physical

2. How can we stay fit

3. Food groups

    - By origin
    - By function

4. Healthy Diet

    -Types of food
    - Healthy diet

1 - WHAT IS HEALTH?

There are three things that need to work perfect to have a good healt:

 - Mental health: feelings and emotions.

 - Social health: realtionships, friends, family and classmates.

 - Physical health: excercise, sports, sleep and healthy food.

There are professionals that can help you if you need it: paediatricians, psychologist, nurses, doctors,...

There are three things we need to do to prevent damage:

 - Have healthy habits
 - Go to medical check-ups
 - Get the vaccinations.

2. HOW CAN WE STAY FIT?

 - Physical exercise:

Help us feel and sleep better.
Keeps our bones and muscles strong.
It is good for our heart.

 - Saftey precautions

    Warm-up before you start.
Do stretching exercices at the end.
    Wear protective equipment.

 - Good posture

       Sit down properly.
    Bent your knees.
When sleeping, lay on your side.

3. FOOD GROUPS

BY ORIGIN

    - ANIMAL: meat, eggs, milk, fish,...

    - PLANT: cereals, fruits and vegetables

    - MINERAL: water and salt.

BY FUNCTIONS

    - ENERGY: food that give us energy such as rice, pasta, bread and oil.

    - BODY-BUILDING: food that give us material to grow such as milk, dairy products,      nuts, meat,...

    - REGULATING: food that give us nutrients such as fruit and vegetables

3. HEALTHY DIET

TYPES OF FOOD:

    - NATURAL AND MINIMALLY PROCESSED FOOD

This is food with no added ingredients: fruits, vegatables, milk,...

    - PROCESSED FOOD

This is natural food with other ingredients added to it: cheese, bread, olives,...

    - ULTRA-PROCESSED FOOD

This is food that is made out of other food: pizza, cookies, burguer,...
